Direct and indirect costs of limb autotomy in field crickets, Gryllus bimaculatus

Article Abstract:

The speed to autotomize an entrapped limb and the costs of the autotomy in both sexes of a first-generation laboratory population of known age was examined. Observations reveal that males with autotomized middle legs showed reduced longevity, but neither sex showed a significant effect of autotomy on body mass.

The importance of calling song and courtship song in female mate choice in the variable field cricket
