Insights into assembly from structural analysis of bacteriophage PRD1

Article Abstract:

The structure and location of the proteins P3, P16, P30, and P31 are described Different structural proteins seem to have specialist roles in controlling virus assembly and the linearly extended P30 appears to nucleate the formation of the icosahedral facets and acts as a molecular tape measure, defining the size of the virus and cementing the facets together.

Membrane structure and interactions with protein and DNA in bacteriophage PRD1

Article Abstract:

Membranes are essential for selectively controlling the passage of molecules in and out of cells and mediating the response of cells to their environment. Biological membranes and their associated proteins present considerable difficult for structural analysis.

A mechanism for initiating RNA-dependent RNA polymerization

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the similarity which exists between the polymerase of the hepatitis C virus and a double-stranded RNA bacteriophage. The evolutionary significance of the similarity is discussed.
