Effect of a spring hunt on nutrient storage by greater snow geese in southern Quebec

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that fowling fosters low protein and fat storage in greater snow geese due to reduced feeding activity and increased time spent in flight. Data were obtained from spring hunts staged in 1999 and 2000 in Quebec. Implications of the negative effects of hunting on goose nutrient storage and wildlife management considerations are discussed.

Effects of neck bands on reproduction and survival of female greater snow geese

Article Abstract:

The effects of neck bands on adult female greater snow geese by contrasting breeding propensity is evaluated. It is recommended that researchers should be cautious in the use of neck bands for estimation of population parameters and that the potential negative effects of neck bands be assessed, as it is likely to be species-specific.

Carrying capacity of wetland habitats used by breeding Greater Snow Geese

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the nutritional carrying capacity of wetland habitats on Bylot Island, Nunavut, Canada which are used as breeding grounds by the Greater Snow Goose. The growth in the birds' population is discussed.
