Evaluating immunocontraception for managing suburban white-tailed deer in Irondequoit, New York

Article Abstract:

A key element in the assessment of the potential of immunocontraception as a management technique for suburban white-tailed deer is an understanding of the factors influencing the effort needed to achieve a population-level effect. For the individual deer, the effort needed to apply immunocontraception is the time needed to encounter deer within appropriate darting range.

Movement behavior, dispersal, and the potential for localized management of deer in a suburban environment

Article Abstract:

The potential of localized management of the white-tailed deer was analyzed by measuring the movements, testing site fidelity and modeling the effects of dispersal. The results suggested that deer showed strong fidelity to both home ranges while the female deer showed overlap of summer and winter home ranges.

Localized management of white-tailed deer in the central Adirondack Mountains, New York

Article Abstract:

The effects of the removal of created lower density areas, its period of existence and origin of repopulating females, were studied by examining the abundance and home ranges of deer. The analysis revealed that the radiomarked deer from surrounding areas did not return to the area after its removal.
