An udder way of making lambs

Article Abstract:

Wilmut and colleagues have proven that it is possible to create viable lambs through nuclear transplantation involving very early sheep embryos. They recently expanded their research by using older, more mature embryos, and proved that viable lambs can also be produced. The success of the procedure appears to depend not on the totipotency of the cells, but on the use of a method that improves the compatibility between the donor nuclei and the cytoplasm of the recipient oocyte.

Effects of progesterone or neuroactive steroid?

Article Abstract:

Interesting results have been reported by Smith and colleagues of the effects of progesterone treatment and withdrawal on the GABAA receptor alpha4 subunit. The conclusion that progesterone withdrawal effects are medicated by a reduction of GABAA receptor active neurosteroid 3alpha-OH-5alpha-pregnan-20-one in the brain is disputed. No direct evidence that levels of 3alpha,5alpha-THP were reduced by indomethacin was provided.
