Fertilized female quail avoid conspecific males: Female tactics when potential benefits of new sexual encounters are reduced

Article Abstract:

Experiments are conducted to determine whether recently fertilized Japanese quail, Coturnix japonica, with less to gain from new sexual encounters than females without sperm in their sperm-storage tubules, would reduce their probability of sexual harassment by avoiding conspecific males and affiliating with conspecific females. The results indicate that female Japanese quail use tactics that reduce their probability of interaction with males when the potential benefits of such interaction are relatively low.

Nursing one litter of Mongolian gerbils while pregnant with another: effects on daughters' mate attachment and fecundity

Article Abstract:

Studies show that the reproductive phenotype of female Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus) is impacted by naturally occurring maternal resource variations, such as dams that are simultaneously pregnant and nursing and dams that are raising young without being simultaneously pregnant and nursing.
