Force generation by mammalian hair bundles supports a role in cochlear amplification

Article Abstract:

Force generation by the hair bundles is proposed as an alternative means of boosting the mechanical stimulus, based on the work in non-mammalian vertebrates. It is shown that hair bundles of mammalian outer hair cells can also produce force on a sub-millisecond timescale linked to adaptation of the mechano-transducer channels.

Replication trimmed back

Article Abstract:

Mammals have evolved a large number of genes to inhibit their replication and avoid the detrimental effects of the c. The gene TRIM5alpha has now been isolated as it is responsible for blocking an incoming virus in the rhesus macaques.

Optional neural population coding of an auditory spatial cue

Article Abstract:

The optimal coding strategy for interaural time difference (ITD) depends on head size and sound frequency. Many vertebrate use ITDs to localize sounds in the horizontal plane.
