Getting the right mix

Article Abstract:

Economists David Hsu and Kwanghui Lim carried out a research to examine whether using expertise from contrasting scientific fields would help a biotechnology firm succeed. Their results show that by hiring researchers form various scientific disciplines a company increases its chances to complete an initial public offering, have a drug approved by the USFDA and having such experts aboard contributed most to its ability to use ideas from one technical domain to innovate in another area.

It further states that large drug companies remain the life sciences employers in Europe, which offer an alternative route to biotech, and big pharma is a good training ground and way into biotech industry.

Scientists attack Bush over intelligent design

Article Abstract:

US President George W. Bush asked for evolution and intelligent design, the notion that certain features of living organisms are so complex that they must have been shaped by an external intelligence, to be taught in schools. However, scientists and science educators disagree with the President, stating that such remarks could further the notion that intelligent design is a valid scientific alternative to evolution.
