Haemangioblast commitment is initiated in the primitive streak of the mouse embryo

Article Abstract:

The study identifies comparable progenitors that can form blast cell colonies in gastrulating mouse embryos using the conditions that support the growth of blast colony-forming cell (BL-CFC). It revealed that haemangioblasts are found at highest frequency in the posterior region of the primitive streak, indicating that initial stages of haematopoietic and vascular commitment occur before island development in the yolk sac.

An inhibitor of Bcl-2 family proteins induces regression of solid tumors

Article Abstract:

ABT-737, a small molecule inhibitor of the anti-apoptotic proteins Bcl-2, Bcl-X and Bcl-w, with affinity two to three orders of magnitude more potent is discovered. The mechanical studies reveal that ABT-737 does not directly indicate the apoptotic process, but enhances the effects of death signals displaying synergistic cytotoxicity with chemotherapeutics and radiation.

cdx4 mutants fail to specify blood progenitors and can be rescued by multiple hox genes

Article Abstract:

Research describes the caudal-related gene, cdx4, the locus mutated in a zebrafish mutant, containing a defect in haematopoiesis, associated with abnormal anteroposterior patterning and aberrant hox gene expression. Results reveal that cdx4 regulates hox genes and is involved in the haematopoietic cell fate during embryogenesis in vertebrates.
