Help lies around the corner for Internet's frustrated users

Article Abstract:

Governments and research organizations are to play a leading role in resolving problems which are currently faced by Internet users. In Europe, for example, a new interconnect facility supplying connections between national research networks will begin operating in May 1997, and Internet links between universities in the US have already been improved. It is now becoming increasingly recognized that insufficient attention has been given to connecting the many networks which make up the Internet.

Internet may help bridge the gap

Article Abstract:

There have been concerns that the Internet would increase the knowledge gap between industrialized and developing countries, but there is more optimism that it could help revive science and technology in the poorer countries. Internet use is growing faster in developing countries than anywhere else according to the International Data Corporation report. There are many initiatives to boost Internet networks for universities in developing countries.
