High temperatures in the late Cretaceous Arctic Ocean

Article Abstract:

Arctic palaeotemperatures form the upper cretaceous deposits is determined using TEX a new palaeothermometer based on the composition of membrane lipids derived from a ubiquitous component of marine plankton, Crenarchaesta. The Arctic marine paleotemperatures are consistent with models of a CO (sub 2)-rich Cretaceous atmosphere characterized by a vigorous hydrological cycle.

Cortical growth marks reveal extended juvenile development in New Zealand moa

Article Abstract:

Cortical growth marks are frequent in long bones of New Zealand moa. Moa has the exaggerated k-selected life history strategy formerly common in the New Zealand avifauna, and in some instances took almost a decade to attain skeletal maturity, which indicates that the reproductive maturity in moa was extremely delayed.
