Improving the plight of the physician-scientist in the US

Article Abstract:

It has becoming increasingly unusual in the US for physicians to become involved in clinical research. Academic activity is being pushed aside as physicians come under growing pressure to boost revenue by providing clinical services to more patients. Some medical schools present a negative image of a career in research, and physicians emerging from medical training often have large debts, making it hard for them to contemplate surviving on the low pay offered by clinical research in comparison with clinical practice.

FDA panel sees problems with labelling of milk hormone

Article Abstract:

A committee advising the US Food and Drug Admistration (FDA) on the labelling of milk products with recombinant growth hormone is inclined to disapprove the proposed policy. Opponents of the said policy say that treated products are indistinguishable from untreated ones and that the hormone has not been proven to pose safety risks. On the other hand, those who believe otherwise say that consumers have the right to decide whether they buy such products or not.
