Innate colour preferences and flexible colour learning in the pipevine swallowtail

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on innate color preferences and color learning ability in the pipevine swallowtail butterfly. Results showed that yellow is the innately preferred color. These butterflies were able to associate floral color with nectar rewards in yellow and magenta within 10 flower visits. Discrimination towards the rewarding color increased with experience. Moreover, foraging behavior readily shifted to a change in reward distribution.

Predatory wasps learn to overcome the shelter defences of their larval prey

Article Abstract:

The involvement of learning in the development of the ability of Polistes wasps to forage successfully on sheltered Epargyreus clarus larvae was examined. The results suggest that invertebrate predators can learn to overcome their prey's defences and are therefore able to make use of previously inaccessible prey.

Colour learning in two behavioral contexts: how much can a butterfly keep in mind?

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the ability of butterflies to learn colour cues in two different behavioral contexts, nectar foraging and oviposition, more or less simultaneously. The results from the study revealed that butterflies could learn it in two behavioral contexts within a short span of time.
