Instability, unfolding and aggregation of human lysozyme variants underlying amyloid fibrillogenesis

Article Abstract:

The transformation of soluble autologous proteins into insoluble amyloid fibrils as tissue deposits is linked with Alzheimer's disease, systemic amyloidosis, transmissible spongiform encephalopathy and other serious diseases. The two naturally occurring human lysozyme variants, which both cause autosomal dominant hereditary amyloidosis, are analyzed in terms of their structure, stability, fibrillogenic properties and conformational dynamics.

Amyloid fibrils from muscle myoglobin

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the ability of myoglobin to convert into radically different alternative structures which closely resemble the prion and amyloid aggregates found in pathological diseases.

A camelid antibody fragment inhibits the formation of amyloid fibrils by human lysozyme

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on single-domain fragment of camelid antibody raised against wild-type human lysozyme. Results demonstrate that this fragment inhibits the aggregation of its amyloid variant.
