Kudos, not cash, is the real X-factor

Article Abstract:

The initial Ansari X Prize competition to create a reusable private spacecraft has set a way for other technological competitions that will help in revolutionizing the field by giving them huge publicity. The X Prize Cup, scheduled to begin on 20 October 2006, is the two-day festival in the New Mexico desert that will feature three competitions, including a NASA-sponsored lunar-lander contest and more than US$2.5 million in prize money.

Patent examiners call in the jury

Article Abstract:

The US Patent and Trade Office have filed a new application on its website, which invites people to give their views and help in the patent evaluation process. The pilot project is expected to highly speed up the patient quality and will earn a lot of profit for the company because of the unpaid volunteers.

Applicants challenge male order at Howard Hughes

The research applicants have challenged the male order at Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), one of the wealthiest philanthropic organizations supporting biomedical research. The HHMI has pledged to increase the percentage of women on the review panels that select research investigators.
