Labour party pledges to end privatization of UK laboratories

Article Abstract:

Britain's opposition Labour Party has promised to end privatization of all government laboratories once it's voted to power. The Conservative government has handed over a number of government laboratories to private-sector through direct sell-offs and by the contracting-out of managerial responsibility. The programme known as Prior Options Review has received considerable resistance from labour unions representing the scientists and technicians. However, the Labour Party is unprepared to commit extra supporting funds to the universities or the industry for research.

UK calls a halt to moves to privatize laboratories

Article Abstract:

The UK prevented the privatization of government-owned laboratories and research organizations. The decision was an outcome of a 1983 evaluation of government laboratories to determine the feasibility of privatization. Scientists and researchers of the British Geological Survey and Medical Research Council also expressed their approval of the government's decision. Furthermore, the government's decision was aided by the outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy which necessitated government access on scientific research and advice.

UK Labour Party seeks votes through pro-science image

Article Abstract:

The Labour Party of the UK is influencing the scientific community by promising that science will be the major issue in the economic and social policy of any future Labour government. The Party's science spokesman, John Battle, has said that the Labour Party would create a co-ordinated, strong science strategy to replace the current strategy. This ideology of the Party appears to be gaining acceptance by the scientific community.
