Lighting up logic

Article Abstract:

Workers at the Optoelectronic Computing Systems Center of the University of Colorado have announced the construction of the first simple programmable digital optical computer. This computer uses a lithium niobate switch as its electro-optic device, and its logic functions are performed by an interchange of beam paths of polarized light in response to electric field inputs. The novel features of the device isits dependence on the transit times of signals to synchronize operations as a pipelined string of bits and its use of optical fibers to direct signals between devices. Memory functions are performed by an optical delay line.

Minimization of Boolean complexity in human concept learning

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the learning of concepts and the reasons why certain concepts are easy to learn whereas others are hard. The experimentation was carried out within Boolean concepts.
