Low-temperature processing of 'baroplastics' by pressure-induced flow

Article Abstract:

The baroplastic systems containing nanophase domains of high- and low-glass transition temperature components display melt-like flow under pressure at room temperature. Research indicates that such systems can undergo shredding and remolding several times with no perceptible property degradation. Furthermore, low-temperature baroplastics consume less energy during manufacturing and processing.

Epoxidation of polybutadiene by a topologically linked catalyst

Article Abstract:

Research shows that rotaxane catalyst when threaded onto a polybutadiene polymer strand epoxidizes the polymer double bonds just like the enzymes do. Data indicate that rotaxane consists of manganese(III) porphyrin complex in the substrate binding cavity and oxidizes alkenes within the toroid cavity.

Polymer crystals downsized

Article Abstract:

Researchers have described the preparation of uniform-sized, single-crystal nanoparticles made from polyethylene. The smallest-ever polymer crystals have provided vital evidence that might help in explaining how polymers have crystallized.
