Makira

Article Abstract:

Makira, located northeast of Madagascar is the country's last frontier. Much of its forests have been depleted by means of slashing and burning, because farmers need more land to plant crops to feed their growing families. The System of Rice Intensification (SRI), a process wherein rice production can be for times the usual rice harvests, is being promoted in the area so as to prevent further deforestation.

Palm-size primates

Article Abstract:

Mouse lemurs are primates and not rodents, and proof of that is their tendency to observe a new environment first before exploring it. Extinction of such species will have a negative impact on primate evolution research. Efforts to understand mouse lemurs' behavior, distribution and habitats are discussed.
