Managing the abundance and diversity of breeding bird population through manipulation of deer population

Article Abstract:

It is assumed that deer densities in forests of eastern North America have significant effects on the abundance and diversity of forest birds. The ability of deer to affect forest bird population is tested by monitoring the density and diversity of vegetation and birds for nine years in northern Virginia.

Thresholds in Forest Bird Response to Habitat Alteration as Quantitative Targets for Conservation

Article Abstract:

Receiver-operating characteristic analysis and logistic regression were used to identify species occurrence thresholds for forest birds in managed habitats in New Brunswick, Canada. Findings established initial quantitative targets to be used in conservation planning and silvicultural treatments.

Coffee and conservation

Article Abstract:

The conservationist and scientific organizations are trying to convince the public to purchase 'shade coffee' as opposed to 'sun coffee' as a means of preserving biodiversity in the tropics. The shade coffee production provides better economic incentives to growers as compared to sun coffee.
