Mate preference in female electric fish, Brachyhypopomus pinnicaudatus

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the pintail knifefish of the genus Brachyhypopomus, a group known for extreme sexual dimorphism in their signals and electric organs. The result reveals that the signals of males has larger electric organ discharges (EOD) amplitudes and longer EOD durations, and shows that female Brachyhypopomus pinnicaudatus have a preference for a certain male phenotype.

Social constraints on female mate preferences in mallards, Anas platyrhynchos, decrease offspring viability and mother productivity

Article Abstract:

Constraints theory states that when individuals reproduce with nonpreferred partners, they will have offspring of lower viability than when individuals reproduce with preferred partners. A mate preference trial free of experimenter biases is performed, about what traits in males make them attractive to females.
