Mitigating spatial differences in observation rate of automated telemetry systems

Article Abstract:

Automated and conventional telemetry systems are increasingly being used by wildlife ecologists to determine habitat use and spatial distributions of ungulates. However, the use of radiotelemetry can have problems associated with nonrandom spatial variation in observation rate, which may result in models being biased towards habitats or locations with higher observation rates. A new study demonstrates the use of semivariograms to remove potential bias in automated telemetry systems.
