Long-distance communication of acoustic cues to social identity in African elephants

Article Abstract:

Research showed that female elephants can recognize contact calls from a specific family or bond group at distances of more than 2.5 kilometers. Overall, research was designed to test the maximum distance in which a vocal signal might be detectable to elephants.
