Glutamatergic synapses on oligodendrocyte precursor cells in the hippocampus

Article Abstract:

A new study demonstrates that a rapid signalling pathway exists from pyrimidal neurons to the oligodendrocyte precursor cells in the hippocampus.

Target-cell-specific concentration of a metabotropic glutamate receptor in the presynaptic active zone

Article Abstract:

The presynaptic grid which is a site of synaptic vesicle fusion contains high concentrations of a metabotropic glutamate receptor, mGluR7, in the rat hippocampus. The levels of mGluR7 are ten times higher in the pyramidal cell terminals presynaptic to mGluR1-alpha-expressing interneurons than in terminals making synapses with pyramidal cells. The levels are different at different synapses made by pyramidal axons and single boutons. The concentration of mGluR7 appears to relate postsynaptic element identity and levels of presynaptic receptor expression.

INcreased number of synaptic GABAA receptors underlies potentiation at hippocampal inhibitory synapses

Article Abstract:

Changes in synaptic efficacy are required for neuronal development, states of neuronal excitability and learning and memory formation. A quantal analysis of evoked inhibitory postsynaptic currents was combined with quantitative immunogold localization of synaptic GABAA receptors in hippocampal granule cells. The aim was to determine the basis of inhibitory synaptic plasticity caused by an experiment temporal-lobe epilepsy model.
