Mixed response to NIH's web journal plan

Article Abstract:

The proposal for a global web site, E-Biomed, to centralize biomedical literature, has led to mixed reactions. The literature would be more widely available and this has been welcomed, but there are concerns that existing journals may be harmed. Martin Frank, executive director of the American Physiological Society, which publishes 14 journals, believes that E-Biomed is cumbersome and its implementation will not be easy. There are concerns too about the prospect of public funding for scientific publishing.
