Monsanto reinvents itself after 95 years

Article Abstract:

Agrochemical concern Monsanto is to split up its chemical business into two separate companies by the end of 1997. This will allow the company to shift away from its traditional image and become a key player in life sciences. It currently employs 1,800 people at its Life Sciences Research Center, which has four main buildings containing most of the 250 laboratories. Within the life sciences division, it has formed three new start-up business areas covering health and wellbeing, sustainable development and nutrition. It expects to recruit considerably more than 100 people in some of these areas over the next few years.
