Morphine-pathway block in top1 poppies

Article Abstract:

The opium poppy is a source of the pharmaceutical codeine, morphine and their derived analgesics. Poppy mutant known as top1 (for 'thebaine oripavine poppy 1') accumulates the morphine and codeine precursors thebaine and oripavine, and does not complete the biosynthesis into morphine and codeine. The top1 mutant contributes to the genetic dissection of the morphine pathway and is swiftly deployed for an agriculturally viable supply of thebaine carrying little risk of diversion for illicit purposes.

Downstream nuclear events in brassinosteroid signalling

Article Abstract:

A study of the downstream nuclear events in brassinosteroid signaling is presented. The observations demonstrate that phosphorylation-dependant inhibition of DNA binding and trans-activation is the key primary mechanism of BES1 regulation.
