Drawbacks of peer review

Article Abstract:

The peer-review system assesses the quality of new publications, but its evaluations are inconsistent. Forty-five members of editorial boards were asked for their opinion of the journal's standard questionnaire. Thirty-one of them responded, and said they belieed that the rating was extreme and unreliable. The peer-review method was consequently rejected by new journals.

Dangers of over-dependence on peer-reviewed publication

Article Abstract:

Reliance on scientific journals is too great. The scientific community and others assume that what they read in such journals is of high quality, but although some papers are conclusive some are extremely controversial. Publication of information on the Internet will have an impact on this, but there are also dangers of distortion of facts through electronic publication.
