Parental care protects against infanticide in the lizard Egernia saxatilis (Scincidae)

Article Abstract:

The parental care in black rock skinks, Egernia saxatilis, from southeastern Australia is investigated. The study indicates that some lizards display postpartum parental care, which in turn benefits their progeny via reduced risk of infanticide and better access to thermal and nutritional resources.

Division of labor in parental care behavior of a sex-role-reversed shorebird, the wattled jacana

Article Abstract:

The study quantifies the roles of male and female-wattled jacanas, Jacana jacana, in providing parental care to their eggs and young. The study concluded that although males perform the overwhelming majority of parental care in wattled jacanas, females provide critical backup support.

Sexual conflict and parental care in magnificent frigatebirds: Full compensation by deserted females

Article Abstract:

The behavioral response of female magnificent frigatebirds, Fregata magnificent, to desertion by their mates is investigated. Results reveal that after the mate deserted, the females nearly doubled their feeding rate and thus, fully compensated for the lost care.
