Phosphorylation of Sld2 and Sld3 by cyclin-dependent kinases promotes DNA replication in budding yeast

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to identify two S phase cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK) (S-CDK) phosphorylation sites in the budding yeast Sld3 protein that are essential for DNA replication. The ability of the Sld2 and Sld3 bypass mutants together with Dbf4 to induce DNA replication in [alpha]-factor-arrested cells completes a pathway connecting an extracellular growth factor ([alpha] factor) to the initiation of DNA replication.

Preparing the shot

Article Abstract:

The important role played by Helicobacter pylori protein CagL, which binds to integrin receptors on gastric epithelial cells to transfer cancer-associated protein (CagA) is reported. The phosphorylated CagA promotes H. pylori virulence and an unfavorable outcome for infection with this bacterium.

Genome-wide survey of protein kinases required for cell cycle progression

Article Abstract:

Cycles of protein phosphorylation are fundamental in regulating the progression of the eukaryotic cell through its division cycle. The complement of Drosophila protein kinases for cell cycle functions after gene silencing by RNA-mediated interference is tested.
