Article Abstract:

An increasing number of scientific publications are being published on the Internet worldwide communications network. A wide range of publications are currently available from World Wide Web sites all over the world. These include Experimental Biology Online and Electronic Journal of Theoretical Chemistry. Scientists are confident that the Web will encourage international cooperation in research and speed up research communications.

The self-archiving initiative

The growth of the Internet and online services should enable authors of refereed articles to make their research widely available for free. Authors will only need to self-archive their articles in 'eprint' archives.

Publishing on the semantic web

Article Abstract:

Issues surrounding the impact of the Internet on scientific publishing are discussed. Particular focus is given to the Semantic Web Activity project, which will help improve communication between scientific users.
