Protection and susceptibility

Article Abstract:

Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is caused by a complex interaction of genetic and environmental factors that conspire to induce autoimmune destruction of pancreatic B-cells. The genetic factors include the insulin gene in chromosome 11 and the HLA region in chromosome 6. Within this region, the class II genes, especially certain alleles of the DQ and DR loci, have been implicated in susceptibility to IDDM. Detailed analysis of these loci has identified residue 57 of DQB1 as important in conferring resistance to IDDM.

TFIIIC relieves repression of U6 snRNA transcription by chromatin

Article Abstract:

Nucleosome reconstitution experiments involving the U6 small nuclear (sn)RNA gene (SNR6) were conducted to determine the possible role of TFIIIC in chromatin repression. The results showed that when the SNR6 gene is complexed with histones, TFIIIC is required to facilitate the access of DNA to transcription factors. This process involves the interaction of TFIIIC with the B block element of SNR6.

XCDT1 is required for the assembly of pre-replicative complexes in Xenopus laevis

Article Abstract:

The replication factor Xenopus CDT1 is vital in loading MCM proteins onto pre-replicative chromatin, a stage of pre-replication complexes assembly. This stage is probably undertaken in combination with XCDC6, itself needed for the chromatin association of XMCMs.
