Quality control in the endoplasmic reticulum protein factory

Article Abstract:

Secretory proteins are produced in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) factory, in which a quality control system is maintained that allows only correctly folded proteins to be transported to their final destination. The development and the increased needs of the ER factory are discussed.

Protein folding and misfolding

Article Abstract:

Biological activity and the transportation of proteins to different cellular locations depend on the folding and unfolding of proteins. The mechanism involved in the process of folding and unfolding of protein is described.

Protein degredation and protection against misfolded or damaged proteins

Article Abstract:

The selective destruction of misfolded or damaged proteins is the mechanism by which cells ensure the quality of intracellular proteins. This process protects cells against harsh conditions and numerous diseases.
