Quasispecies diversity determines pathogenesis through cooperative interactions in a viral population

Article Abstract:

The consequences of limiting genomic diversity on viral populations are examined order to test the hypothesis that they are the target of evolutionary selection. It is found that poliovirus carrying a high-fidelity polymerase replicates at wild-type levels but generates less genomic diversity and is unable to adapt to adverse growth conditions.

Light-induced hormone conversion of T4 to T3 regulates photoperiodic response of gonads in birds

Article Abstract:

The Japanese quail is an excellent model for studying the mechanism of photoperiodic time measurement because of its distinct and marked response to changing photoperiods. Light-induced 2 iodothyronine deiodinase (Dio2) expression in the mediobasal hypothalamus (MBH) may be involved in the photoperiodic response of gonads in Japanese quail.
