Female-female competition for male "friends" in wild chacma baboons, Papio cynocephalus ursinus

Article Abstract:

Research describing the anti-infanticide "friendship" strategies of female chacma baboons with selected males is presented. It is shown that female social behavior and age are strongly correlated.

Queuing and queue-jumping: long-term patterns of reproductive skew in male savannah baboons, Papio cynocephalus

Article Abstract:

Variance in male mating success is strongly correlated with male dominance rank or some other measure of fighting ability. Whether a relationship is detected between male dominance rank and mating success is studied.

Correlates of stress in free-ranging male chacma baboons, Papio hamadryas ursinus

Article Abstract:

The relationship between faecal glucocorticods (fGCs) and several ecological, demographic and behavioral variables in a population of free-ranging chacma baboons, were evaluated. Behavioral events in the population of chacma baboons were the best predictors of variation in male glucocorticod measures, rather than demographic or ecological variables.
