Rapid developmental switch in the mechanisms driving early cortical columnar networks

Article Abstract:

An intact in vitro preparation of the immature mouse cerebral cortex that neurons are functionally coupled in local clusters is presented by means of propagating network oscillations in the beta frequency range. Findings shows that during a brief developmental period the cortical networks switches from a subplate-driven, gap-junction-coupled syncytium to a synaptic network acting through NMDA receptors to generate synchronized oscillatory activity, which may function as an functional template for the development of the cortical columnar architecture.

Pluripotency of spermatogonial stem cells from adult mouse testis

Article Abstract:

The isolation of spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) from adult mouse testis is showed using genetic selection, with a success rate of 27%. These isolated SSCs respond to culture conditions and acquire embryonic stem cell properties that are named as multipotent adult germline stem cells.

Sparse optical microstimulation in barrel cortex drives learned behavior in freely moving mice

Article Abstract:

A new approach for introducing learned behavior in freely moving mice is examined. Findings show that mice exhibit learned behavior because of the sparse optical microstimulation in the barrel cortex.
