Rapid taste aversion learning in adult cuttlefish, Sepia officinalis

Article Abstract:

The selectivity in the predatory behavior of subadult and adult cuttlefish, Sepia officinalis, and the long-term effects of learning on subsequent food preferences are investigated. The analysis shows that cuttlefish were able to learn that a prey is not acceptable food, even if they usually prey on it, to recognize it and to avoid it for several days and as a result to eat a usually nonpreferred prey.

Behavioral and genetic assessment of reproductive success in a spawning aggregation of the Australian giant cuttlefish, Sepia apama

Article Abstract:

The spawning aggregation of cuttlefish, Sepia apama that occurs in winter in Southern Australia provides a unique opportunity to study mating system and sexual selection in a natural cuttlefish population. The genetic and behavioral data was combined to assess patterns of mating and subsequent paternity in a cephalopod.
