Migration of seismic scatters associated with the 1993 Parkfield aseismic transient event

Article Abstract:

A systematic temporal variation in the seismograms of repeat microearthquakes that occurred on the Parkfield segment of the San Andreas fault over the decade 1987-97 is analyzed. Analysis reveals a change of the order of 10 m in the location of scatters which plausibly lie within the fault zone at a depth of ~3 km.

Reflection signature of seismic and aseismic slip on the northern Cascadia subduction interface

Article Abstract:

The change in the reflection character on seismic images from a thin sharp reflection to a broad reflection is illustrated. The study on this change in reflection character helps to map out the landward extends of rupture in great earthquake, and improves the characterization of seismic hazards in subduction zones.

Ramp initiation in a thrust wedge

Article Abstract:

Collisional mountain belts are characterized by fold and thrust belts which are the fundamental mechanics for initiating thrust ramp. The initiation of a thrust ramp is analogous to perturbation models for thrust duplex initiation.
