An unpublished Alfred Russell Wallace paper has illustrated that even at an early age he was bold enough to approach the scientific establishment with his ideas. This discovery of an unpublished paper has illustrated the increasing value of the Internet as a means of identifying archival sources relevant to ongoing research.

The Emperor of Japan, on the 300th anniversary of Carl Linnaeus, recounts the contributions made by the scientist, and his disciple, to the taxonomy in Japan, in an era when, due to fear of Christian conversions Emigration of Japanese and visits by foreigners were restricted.
