Sexual selection in the lek-breeding European treefrog: Body size, chorus attendance, random mating and good genes

Article Abstract:

A study on variation in male reproductive performance and success in a population of individually marked European treefrogs, Hyla arborea, a hylid frog with prolonged breeding season and a lek mating system was carried out over a period of 2 years. The study revealed that male mating success was correlated with chorus attendance and there were no significant differences with regard to body size, age or growth rate between males surviving to next breeding season and those not surviving.

Adaptation or random change? The evolutionary response of songs to substrate properties in lacewings (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae: Chrysoperla)

Article Abstract:

The study uses both patterns and experiments to test for the presence of environmental adaptation in the evolution of songs and origin of song species within the carnea group of green lacewings. It is concluded that the pattern suggestive of environmental adaptation of lacewings songs to their substrates is not supported by experiments that explicitly tested for adaptation.

The influence of sexual selection and male agility on sexual size dimorphism in bustards (Otididae)

Article Abstract:

Impact of sexual selection on sexual size dimorphism in bustards is discussed. Strength of mating competition and aerial agility are the two hypothesis used in the observation.
