Article Abstract:

Five species in Australian cormorants, namely, Great, Pied, Little Black, Little Pied and Black faced, which are separated by a combination of plumage color, color of facial skin and size are described. The food of the cormorants, when foraging pelagically, mainly on fish and marine crustaceans, and when inland, native and introduced freshwater fishes, frogs, ducklings and other vertebrates, while little pied cormorants are unique in groups by feeding primarily on crustaceans.

Roo poo tells all

Article Abstract:

A Ph.D. project was started in 2000 on DNA extraction from poo in Australia and then applied to monitor changes in abundance of Brush-tailed Rock-wallabies in Wollemi National Park as it was not easy to observe or trap and estimate the sizes of their colonies in Wolgan Valley. Results found that DNA profiles from poo had a lot to offer the conservation efforts for the species.
