South Africa takes steps to tackle HIV

Article Abstract:

South Africa's deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has appealed to his nation on 1 December 2006, World AIDS day, to join hands to fight and defeat AIDS and released a draft of the government's plan to tackle the AIDS pandemic. The document, which contains targets meant to halve the rate of infection and to make antiretroviral treatment available to 80% of those who require it by the end of 2011 and generated cautious optimism by AIDS among activists and practitioners.

South Africa names head of science ministry

South African scheme lures in top talent
