Spatial regulation of beta-actin translation by Src-dependent phosphorylation of ZBP1

Article Abstract:

Chicken Zipcode binding protein 1 (ZBP1) modulates the translation of beta-actin mRNA, and associates with the beta-actin transcript in the nucleus and prevents premature translation in the cytoplasm by blocking translation initiation. The sequential events provide both temporal and spatial control over beta-actin mRNA translation, which is important for cell migration and neurite outgrowth.

RNA switches function

Article Abstract:

RNA performs a lot of functions other than being a passive messenger in the transfer of genetic information. Some bacterial messenger RNAs directly regulate the expression of proteins involved in the synthesis of certain metabolic products, which responds to changing levels of the metabolites in the cell that resembles a feedback mechanism.

The functions of animal microRNAs

Article Abstract:

The expression of complementary messenger RNAs is regulated by the small RNAs, microRNAs (miRNAs). The genetic analysis of miRNA genes in model organisms has started to put into place the pieces of a mosaic that will eventually demonstrate the range of functions that miRNA have in control of animal development and physiology.
