Suppression of anoikis and induction of metastasis by the neurotrophic receptor TrkB

Article Abstract:

A study conducted for the identification of TrkB, which is a neurotrophic tyrosine kinase receptor, as a potent and specific suppressor of caspase-associated anoikis of non-malignant epithelial cells, is presented. It is seen that TrkB generates specific and potent pro-survival signal that makes epithelial cells capable of resisting anoikis.

PAC1 phosphatase is a transcription target of p53 in signalling apoptosis and gowth suppression

Article Abstract:

Cancer researchers in the US have discovered that overexpression of PAC1 (phosphatase of activated cells 1) can increase a cell's susceptibility to apoptosis and inhibit tumor growth. The article concludes that p53 uses a palindromic binding site to regulate PAC1 and that this may lead to a way of eliminating cancer cells through apoptosis.

Hedgehog signalling controls eye degeneration in blind cavefish

Article Abstract:

The Hedgehog (hh) gene expression at the embryonic midline controls eye degeneration in blind cavefish. The expansion of hh signalling results in hyperactivation of downstream genes, lens apoptosis and arrested eye growth and development.
