The Earth's 'hum' is driven by ocean waves over the continental shelves

Article Abstract:

The observations on Earth has shown that the interacting ocean waves over the shallow continental shelves have driven the hum of the Earth and not turbulence as it is found to be a very weak source. The measurements of the temporal correlation between ocean wave data and seismic data have indicated that ocean waves, instead of atmospheric turbulence, are driving the modes of the Earth.

Reduced mixing from the breaking of internal waves in equatorial waters

Article Abstract:

Analysis of breaking of internal waves in the equatorial waters of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans reveals a reduced mixing rate that is less than ten percent of that measured at mid-latitudes. The article concludes that this data is importatnt to future calculations in ocean dynamics, as well as climate change experiments.

Mixing with latitude

Article Abstract:

The relation of internal waves to ocean turbulence is explored. From measurements taken at multiple latitudes, physicists hope to create a better method for tracking ocean mixing, and produce more accurate climate models.
