TV tests call into question cloner's stem-cell success

Article Abstract:

Doubts are raised over the validity of Woo Suk Hwang's work on human stem cells after he admitted to lying about the origins of human eggs used in his work. A Seoul-based TV network MBC challenged Hwang's credibility by conducting tests of its own and subsequently proving the researcher wrong, Hwang stood by his experiments but needs to carry out tests, which would clear his scientific results.

Bird flu spreads among java's pigs

Article Abstract:

Chairul Nidom, a virologist at Air-langga University's tropical-disease center in Surabaya, Java, found the H5N1 virus in five of ten pigs tested from Banten in western Java. The presence of the virus in pigs is a particular worry as the animals could harbor both bird and human flu viruses, and act as a mixing vessel for the emergence of a strain of avian flu that could easily infect humans.
