Article Abstract:

The government of Italy is attempting to drastically reform the distribution of research grants in the country. Research grant awards in Italy continue to be strongly influenced by people with pull. Efforts to overhaul the system have been blocked for a long time by many members of the Italian parliament who are university professors and who are resistant to any changes that may alter the privileges they enjoy under the current system.

USDA fails the grade

Article Abstract:

The Kansas City Star newspaper conducted an investigation on the corrupt practices of the USDA. Investigation results revealed that the government office has been giving concessions to big businesses at the expense of consumers and small-scale farmers.

Taking the USDA to task and to court

Article Abstract:

The US Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) has failed to improve the plight of captive animals even after 11 years of the Animal Welfare Act. Because of this, the Animal Legal Defense Fund sued the USDA to make it do a better job and fulfill its obligations.
