Temperature influences the coercive mating and swimming performance of male eastern mosquitofish

Article Abstract:

The acute effects of temperature on the mating behaviour and swimming performance of male eastern mosquitofish, Gambusia holbrooki relies on a coercive strategy to obtain matings and are routinely exposed to daily temperature fluctuations. The maximum swimming performance and approach speeds during copulations were thermally dependent on the temperature range and acute temperature variation has important fitness implications for the male mosquitofish, but mating performance was significantly limited only at extreme temperatures.

Queue selection and switching by false clown anemonefish, Amphiprion ocellaris

Article Abstract:

A description on the settlement to and movement among social groups of false clown anemonefish (Amphiprion ocellaris) is presented. Field observations indicated that, independent of an anemone's size, postlarval false clowns are more likely to settle to an anemone if the resident groups is smaller, suggesting that settlers prefer shorter queues.
