Testing global positioning system telemetry to study wolf predation on deer fawns

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to test the usefulness of Global Positioning System (GPS) collars for investigating wolf predation on white-tailed deer fawns. Result showed that this approach holds potential for investigating summer hunting behavior of wolf in each areas where direct observation is impractical.

Estimating cougar predation rates from GPS location clusters

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that global positioning systems are a useful tool for estimating the predation vulnerability of a region's prey base. GPS was used in Wyoming to determine predation rates of cougars on large mammals; statistical calculations are presented and discussed.

Wolf movement patterns: A key to estimation of kill rate?

Article Abstract:

The wolf (Canis lupus) kill rates from the fine-scale movement patterns which were estimated by using Global Positioning Systems (GPS) during the winters of 2001-2003 is presented.
