The formation of binary and multiple star systems

Article Abstract:

A computer simulation of how protostars coalesce out of interstellar gas clouds indicates that binary and multiple protostar systems may be more abundant than previously thought. These systems consist of two or more stars and originate when the gas clouds are powerfully condensed and cooled in radiative shocks. In contrast, solitary protostars originate from either the thermal fragmenting of the gas layers or from rotational fragmentation caused by accretion.

Microbial mediation as a possible mechanism for natural dolomite formation at low temperatures

Article Abstract:

The precipitation of a ferroan dolomite with a high degree of cation order, in the presence of sulphate-reducing bacteria from the Desulfovibrio was the first successful, low-temperature laboratory simulation. This may indicate a major role for the bacteria in natural dolomite formation. Dolomite is a carbonate mineral found abundantly in ancient rocks. The experimental procedure for dolomite formation is described.

Pack formation in cycling and orienteering

Article Abstract:

A model of the process of pack formation in cycling and orienteering is presented. It was found that packs arise in chasing and time-trial races when more than 13% of competitors come across others who can then stay with them and benefit from following.
